The government has finally agreed to grant permits for overnight motorhome stays in designated areas. It was a long fight to change their minds but we won. I am relieved that we can now enjoy our beautiful island properly.

Allow Jersey Residents to camp overnight in their motorhomes in delegated areas around the island with use of a permit.
Final supporters
At present it is illegal in Jersey to camp overnight in your motorhome. If found guilty of this offence the vehicle owner can be fined up to £500.00.
In accordance with the Planning and Environment Guidelines Jersey Residents are not permitted to use their motorhomes/caravans for habitable purposes whilst it is in the island.
You may only use your caravan/motorhomes in the following campsites:
Rozel Camping Park.
Beuvelande Campsite.

As Jersey Residents we wish to petition against these restrictions to allow us to camp overnight in our motorhomes in areas other than the above locations.
We understand the frustrations with small minorities that are disruptive to the surrounding environment and litter the areas, however the majority of us are respectful of the environment and just want to enjoy the beautiful scenery Jersey has to offer.
We would like a permit to be issued allowing residents to camp overnight in 'agreed'locations of the island.
Understandably there may be restrictions on how many nights a vehicle can be inhabited for on any given occasion and that those that violate the terms of the permit will have it removed and could be fined but for those of us that are responsible will have an amazing opportunity to enjoy the island the way it should be.

One hundred people have signed on to this struggle and that level of support gives me enough fuel to keep going. It feels like a long road ahead but I am not turning back now.

ABOUT TIME. Jersey is so far behind on this. Just give us a list of spots and a permit fee and everyone is happy.
I think we've all pee'd in the bushes more than once in our lives. I don't think you should have to have a toilet in your camper van to allow you to camp in a designated area. As a child i remember camping with my parents we never had a "toilet" with us. This kind of defeats the object and takes away fun memorable experiences for children growing up, who's parents may only be able to afford an old converted van.
Your motorhome/ van must be self contained. Unless your van has toilet facilities then you should not be allowed to camp. I would gladly pay a licence fee to any parish or all parishes that are will to allow me to used motorhome a few weekends a year. People turning up in old converted vans with no facilities using the hedgerows as toilets is the problem and spoil it for all. Licence those who are law abiding and responsible adults this is after all 2014 not 1960 the hippy time..
You may also use your motorhome or campervan at Daisy Cottage campsite, st Ouen (subject to availability ) currently the only one open all year. Maybe the States need to look at entrepreneurs opening a couple new campsites to help tourism, when we started camping there were 7 campsites, three of which were in St Brelades and all closed now.
Totally agree about the permit. If people litter or make a mess then fine them, but don't ban everyone. We just love to wake up by the sea without paying campsite fees just to park on a field.

Ridiculous that we have to ship our vans to France just to go on a weekend trip. Plenty of spots around the north coast that could work with a simple permit system. Stop treating us like criminals for wanting to enjoy our own island.
