For months we have been demanding to have microwaves in the break-out spaces on each floor at the Crick. So far our calls have been met with resistance. We want change. We want microwaves on all floors. NOW!

By now most of us have experienced the daily 15 minute-long queue for the canteen microwaves on the ground floor. Five microwaves for a building of 1250+ people is insufficient to say the least. It would be invaluable to have access to a nearby microwave when doing time-sensitive experiments or trying to meet that important deadline. In order to adhere to the Crick core values of being Bold, Imaginative, Open, Dynamic and Collegial, we need to get on with our ground-breaking discovery science, not waste our time in a queue FOR NO REASON.

Please sign this petition, and include your floor and quadrant, if you agree we should be allowed to have microwaves in each floor's break-out space.

I honestly cannot believe how quickly everyone is jumping on this cause because standing in that canteen line is just such a massive drain on my brain power when I am trying to focus on my samples. It feels like the entire building is finally waking up to the fact that we deserve better than wasting half our lunch break just to heat up some leftovers upstairs. I am honestly surprised by the energy here and it makes me think we might actually force them to do something about it for once.

3SE I've stopped bring in lunch because of the stress of wondering how long its going to take me to get to the microwaves.

SW3 I do think there should be more downstairs, in the microwave room and/or on a table outside it. But some staff don't want to sit in the canteen because it's so noisy, and the space in the coffee area which is quieter, is limited. Also, it doesn't really make sense for people to go downstairs to heat their food to then bring it back up. My only concern would be who would clean them :) (especially given the infinity pool that develops in our shared coffee area).

The limited number of microwaves available in the canteen is ridiculous and causes considerable waiting time. To allow microwaves in the breakout areas on each floor would be very helpful as many of us don't wish to eat in the canteen area and would also alleviate waiting time.

I have resorted to bring only salads as the queue is just too long most days! I want to eat my food, warm and without a long wait!

Travelling down to the 'restaurant' area from SW4 combined with slow service in the canteen and/or long microwave ques can take up to an hour from my work day. Most days the lunch time chat revolves around the terrible management skills and organisation of the institute. How sad is it that in a multi-million pound building with over a thousand staff members, we have only been supplied with enough microwaves to count on one hand. What is more disappointing thing is that we have to resort to an online petitions to have our voices heard! A very SMALL and SIMPLE solution could ease a small portion of this tension and provide an atmosphere worthy of upholding the CRICK values - I know I would appreciate a microwave on level 4!
