Dear President Barack Obama, and members of the United States Congress, the people of Liberia, after 14 years of violent civil conflict during which over 250,000 Liberians were killed, with thousands more raped and tortured, the Liberian people were promised a genuine reconciliation process for which a truth and reconciliation commission was established. The commission's task was to investigate the causes of violence in the Liberian society, and recommend how to prevent future violence.

The commission's final report points to impunity as the main culprit for violence in the Liberian society, and, among other things, recommended that certain individuals, including those who presided over and executed the war, along with those who financed the war, and those who used the war to commit economic crimes, to be held accountable.

The commision report has since remained un-implemented, with impunity currently overwhelming the Liberian society creating fear among the Liberian people about the possibility of future violence. The Republic of Liberia and her people only hope for  genuine reconciliation  and the permanent removal of fear about future violence is for the United States of America, its government, its people, and especially you, Mr. President, to come out and publicly show your support for a true reconciliation for the Liberian people in a public statement. Your statement will not only strengthen the Liberian reconciliation process, but will also boost Liberia's fledging democracy to enable all Liberians to have a fair shot to improve their lives.

It is the hope of the Liberian people that your statement will encourage our current government to start the process for genuine reconciliation process agreed upon by majority Liberians by implementing the recommendations contained in the final report of the Liberian Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

I strongly support the petition; for genuine reconciliation and lasting peace will never take place in Liberia until the key players of the killing of some 250,000 Liberians are brought to justice

Justice for the victims is long overdue. stop letting these people get away with murder while our country suffers.
