A school board member should be held to a high moral standard. Black and Brown students deserve to be represented by members who do not hold prejudice against them. Through her deportation threat Towanna Murphy shows that she is NOT a community advocate who cares for the best interests of Brown students.

No one has the right to discriminate someone. We are all God’s children. We are in this world to love & serve each other, no matter the race, color of skin, or religion God is all powerful & His will will be done. In God we trust!

I was deeply disturbed by the remarks said by this person. I do not wish bad upon her but only ask her to be removed from her position in Memphis city schools. Racism is never tolerated no matter who you are !

Memphis - I am deeply disturbed and saddened by the behavior displayed by one of the Shelby county school board member. Regardless of how the argument began, racism and threats of deportation should never be part of anyone's behavior-especially not from an elected official representing one of Tennessee's most diverse school districts. To every Latino and Hispanic resident and U.S. citizen in Memphis: remember the power of your vote. It matters—not just in national elections, but just as importantly, in local ones. I sincerely hope she chooses to step down. Her decision to go on Facebook Live to defend her actions was just the cherry on top. Never allow anyone to treat you this way. There is power in community, and I am here to support any and all efforts for her

Racism isn’t acceptable especially when minorities make up the majority of the entire Memphis and surrounding areas.
