The redevelopment of Caldicot Cross and Church Road has created several major safety hazards. There is no longer a safe crossing point at Caldicot Cross. This is a major hazard for pedestrians, particularly the elderly, individuals with sight and or hearing difficulties and for children. The narrowing of Church Road has resulted in major safety issues for pedestrians and motorists. This is particularly an issue in the area of St Mary's Church where the road has been narrowed on a blind bend. Many near misses are being reported in both areas. The safety barrier from the footpath to Castle Park school was removed leaving nothing to prevent children running out onto the road. There is also a complete lack of adequate signage. Some of the workmanship is substandard and far from turning Church Road into a lovely street leading to the Castle we are left with an eyesore which bears no resemblance to the documents provided to residents.
We the undersigned call on Monmouthshire County Council to take immediate action to provide safe crossing points at Caldicot Cross and for the School children attending Castle Park School. We also call on the council to rectify all substandard work and provide safe attractive facilities at Church Road.

A proper crossing with a noise to let partial sighted/blind people know that they can cross safely is a must at the Cross. And why is a bus stop being put in at the end of Church road so near to the junction And so near to the other 2 stops around the corner when no buses come down Church road.
I’m a wheelchair user and there is no safe crossing point now the pedestrian crossing has been taken away. The whole area is chaos for drivers so causing it to be very dangerous for pedestrians.
I almost got hit by a lorry not giving way opposite the Church in the ridiculously narrow section, and to narrow 10 metres in from a junction at the Cross end is just absurd. Clearly designed by someone without a driving licence.
There are numerous safety aspects regarding this road but Monmouthshire CC need to meet residents and local regular road users to sort these issues before there is a tragic accident.
Yesterday, 14/6/21, I was leaving the castle and there were 2 delivery vans by the church gate, one jutting completely into the road. The ARW school bus was coming towards them and two cars were trying to pass, outside the Castle Inn. They both had to mount the pavement to let the bus through. An absolute shambles!

This road is absolutely ridiculous and the narrowing at the blind spot is beyond me. How is anyone supposed to know if there is a vehicle approaching from the other side? One of the first lessons when learning how to drive is not to overtake an obstacle on a blind corner yet this was totally disregarded.

As a new resident to the area I am horrified at the state of Church Road and how narrow it is in places . As a motorist I feel I am taking my life in my hands I cannot imagine what fear a pedestrian, especially a child, must feel.
