Currently, Morristown, NJ offers one concrete (terrible for dogs paws) fenced-in, pet-friendly recreation area, and we would like to see that change.
We, the People of Morristown, petition the town of Morristown, to create a fenced-in, off-leash, dog park at Budd Street Playground.
Ultimately the goal of any social program should be to create a safer, more inclusive, community for all of its members. Building an off-leash dog park in Morristown, New Jersey would accomplish just that. Hyperactivity, barking, biting, and aggression are “negative” canine behaviors that are directly related to the level of exercise a dog is able to receive. Facilitating an environment where the canine members of our community can socialize, creates a much safer environment for each and every resident.
Studies have shown that dogs who exercise daily are much less prone to the “negative” canine behaviors that were mentioned earlier. Off-leash dog parks give these canine members of our community a place where they can safely socialize, exercise, and play. This improved behavior does not end within the confines of these parks and generally continues with their interactions with neighborhood animals, children, and other community members.
Creating a dog-friendly park would eliminate the need for many canine owners to use the streets. Ultimately this lowers the amount of pedestrian traffic around town, lowers the rate of pedestrian/animal and vehicle encounters, and makes the streets of Morristown cleaner and safer.
Budd Street offers a unique location due to its proximity to the green. With this area being highly populated, there will be more demand for a place for people's dogs to play. Also, with many living in small apartments, these dogs need a place to let their energy out.
With Morristown being rated as one of the best places in town to live, it continually attracts many families and individuals, and having a place for these people's dogs to play will help continue the attraction towards this fantastic town.

I live down the street and have an English Bulldog - we haven’t gone to any local parks since we moved here - this would be HUGE. Thanks for your consideration.
lifelong Morristown resident. Dog walker in town. Large number of dog owners in surrounding area. Offering a fenced in area would be good allocation of space that is not occupied by Ball fields. I know there is play ground/ baseball/ basketball and I believe soccer and lax multiuse space.
Morris County’s Central Park Dog Park is overcrowded. Morristown needs more off leash areas for dogs.
We obviously think this is a great idea. Gizmo comes here a few times a week to fetch and run and be silly. So much space under utilized. As a small business on the same street, we'd love to be apart of this journey, and help in any way we can.
I’m a dog owner in town. This is a needed recreation area for dogs. The caveat is that the dog owners must be responsible for the safety, health, and welfare of ALL -people, their specific dogs, and other people snd their dogs-who use the dog Park. Important that the residents in that community have unhindered , improved recreation space as well.

Last time I took my dog to a paved dog park, the pads on his paws got injured and required veterinary care.
