Brother Rice is having a regular school day, tomorrow March 8th. Due to safety regulations and other concerns, school should be canceled.
Some voters could go as far as threatening or even harm our students. To help prevent this we should cancel school like the other thousands of schools and districts in Michigan including the ones in our local community.
As one of our teachers noted, Brother Rice has a requirement that every student must wear their I.D. Card, with that many people in the building it will be hard to keep control.
Also, many parents have the day off so it will become a bigger hassle to wake up and take their children to school while finding a baby sitter for younger children who have the day off. Then in the afternoon to go back and pick their children up creating a stressful day.
Many teachers and even some students want to express their morals and values by voting. Having school can and will greatly impact their chances of voting.
We have only had one snow day this entire year. We did not have a mid-winter break, so we should keep in mind we have many days that we have not used.
Laws that support this petition,
Mich. Comp. Laws § 168.744 (1); (3)
Mich. Comp. Laws § 168.931(1)(b)(iii)(k)
Both laws state that no person shall pursude their opinion about any candidate within 100 feet of the area that the polling is taking place. Some students may unintentionally express their values within 100 feet which can interfere these laws.
Please share amongst your friends and loved ones. As Brother Rice teaches us that we can make a difference and to let our voices be heard, let's really put it to the test and see their response.

The number of people joining this effort shows how widespread the concern is regarding student safety and local access to polling places. I am currently working to bring these specific community worries directly to the administration to ensure our perspective is considered.

In all seriousness, school should be closed because there is a very real threat that voters could bring. Also, many strangers know that Brother Rice is one of the only schools open, therefore they could take advantage of that and attack. School should definitely be closed for the safety of the students.
As an alumni with relatives in the building I can understand what these students are feeling. I simply ask that the staff be responsible in this. Seeing as Marian has closed I see no reason to have school and waste money on security when the day could just be called off. Let the boys have it!
very serious concern to me. why should these boys be in school when strangers will flock there to cast their vote. wouldnt they have a lockdown drill if a stranger entered the building??
As a former student and current teacher and a voter and knowing that there are some bad people that go out and vote I say there shouldn't be school tomorrow for the safety of our students
The school is unsafe for my child while adults are entering and exiting the premises voting on school campus. Period. I will call my son out of school if necessary.
Please cancel school
I agree that it is unsafe.

If students don't wear an ID the faculty freaks out cuz "we don't know if you're a student or not" and now we let a bunch of people who could be a possible threat in the school like seriously
