The arbitrary decision by the BBC to drop the music of the BRITISH DANCE BANDS from the long-running Radio 2 programme Sunday Night At Ten generated a flood of complaints and led to the resignation of the programme's long-serving specialist presenter, Malcolm Laycock. This much-loved music can now no longer be heard regularly anywhere on the BBC, which seems to be behaving like a commercial enterprise despite being publicly funded. The response from the BBC and the show's producer Bob McDowall has been totally inadequate and his decision to dispense with the long-established format of British Dance Bands leading into Swing Bands has not resulted in any improvement in the programme, instead it has been impoverished. We therefore petition the BBC to review this decision as a matter of urgency, with a view to restoring the music of what has long been known as the Golden Age of BRITISH DANCE BANDS to a regular programme on BBC Radio.

The BBC is ignoring our complaints and ruining a legacy for no reason. We need to hit one hundred signatures right now to force them to stop acting like a corporate machine and listen to the public. Get this link to anyone who cares about preserving our musical heritage before the suits at Radio 2 dismiss us entirely.

Malcolm was the only reason I tuned in on Sunday nights. The BBC has lost the plot completely.

Sick and tired of them playing the same 10 songs over and over. Bring back the real music we actually enjoy.

Disgraceful. They are ignoring their own listeners just to chase some imaginary young audience.

It is our license fee money and they just do whatever they want. Give us our dance bands back.

Absolute rubbish what they have done. Malcolm Laycock knew exactly what the people wanted to hear.
