The venue has officially cancelled their booking and confirmed they will not host this group. Our city proved that hate has no place here and I am incredibly proud of how we pushed back to keep these streets safe.

Bristol Against ‘Britain First’!

The far-right group ‘Britain First’ is planning to hold a meeting in Bristol on Sunday 20th of July. We invite all those opposed to their hatred to support our campaign, and call on all venues in Bristol to refuse to provide a space for fascists to organise in our city.

· It is a violent organisation that has carried out a number of attacks on mosques and Muslim homes, as well as having ties to groups like the EDL, the BNP, the National Front and Unionist paramilitaries in Northern Ireland.

· The founder, Jim Dowson, funded the BNP and has been accused of sexual assault. He worked for an anti-women group called ‘Precious Life’ which campaigned against legal abortion, and has publicly supported the death penalty for homosexuality.

Bristol has a proud tradition of solidarity and anti-racism, and we are asking local organisations to support the campaign to oppose Britain First, and circulate our petition.

We have heard they are planning on meeting around 7pm Sunday 20th July at Patchway Station. Please leave your email in the comments section, or email [email protected] for updates.

I have been contacting every venue in the area tonight to ensure they know exactly who these people are. The feedback from local business owners has been heartening and many have pledged to keep their doors locked to this hate group.

Seeing this level of support reminds me why I love living in a city that refuses to tolerate hate. We are proving that Bristol has no room for the division these people try to bring to our streets.

We are all human no matter the colour. Britain first commit crimes against their fellow man and claim to represent the ideals of people who fought against people like them with their facist opinions. Foolish people

I don't want the neo-nazis and Islamophobes who run Britain First rallying in my lovely, multicultural home city of Bristol.

I detest everything this Britain First stand for. They are racist, homophobic and pretend what they are doing is some sort of Christian crusade. They have never heard of loving their fellow man at all.

Bristol is a bright, multicultural and cosmopolitan city. There should be no room for a hate-fuelled, Islamophobic and xenophobic group like Britain First.

If preaching hate and inciting hate is illegal I am unable to understand why this group are still in operation.
