Asalamu alaikum brothers and sisters, Ramadan Kareem to all of you and I hope that your fast is increasing your Eman and has brought you closer to Allah (swt). Ramadan is a time for all Muslims to come together and strengthen their deen as well as the foundations of this community. Unfortunately our ummah has experienced a great loss with the forced resignation of Dr. Sheikh Reda Bedeir, our imam and facilitator. A decision of this magnitude should have been brought to our attention by MCC (Muslim Council of Calgary), since they should represent the best interests of this community. Dr. Sheikh Reda Bedeir has been working tirelessly in our community giving daawaa to non Muslims as well as organizing and taking part in many activities for the youth. Due to misunderstandings and disagreements between him and members of the MCC, he was forced to resign. This is a great loss for all of us because Dr. Shaykh Reda Bedeir has served this community as a dawaa giver, a speaker, a counselor, as well as a mentor for many Muslims. Dr. Reda gave 90 hours a week to this community when it was not expected of him and he counseled Muslims who came to him with family problems. Many of his workshops and orientations have focused on strengthening the Muslim family so that we can raise a generation of Muslims that practice brotherhood, cooperation, and selflessness. These are among some of the attributes that our community should be made of. Dr. Reda was a key player at Islamic Awareness Week at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal College in which Muslims proudly displayed their religion to non Muslims and addressed any misconceptions concerning Islam. His khutbas at Friday prayers are inspiring and he has the ability to reach people's hearts. Dr. Sheikh Reda was also chosen to represent the Muslims in all of Canada at a conference in P.E.I. in which government officials and leaders of other religious communities attended. MCC consists of a board of members whom decisions must represent the desires of the Muslim community, so it is our obligation to inform them that it is in our best interest to keep Dr. Shiekh Reda Bedeir as our imam and facilitator. He still desires to lead this community but he resigned because he did not want to cause division within the community. Please sign the petition below so that our voice as one ummah can be heard.
