This petition is to be signed by Luther College students, staff, faculty and alumni who would like to see a tradition be returned to Luther. As of late a new seating arrangement during chapel has been implemented wherein some students sit in chairs, others on the bleachers, and faculty/staff dispersed to wherever they may find a seat with the speaker standing in front of the stage. Due to the new arrangement students are now wearing shoes on our sacred gym floor, taking away from the tradition of never doing so in risk of tarnishing something which has been apart of the school for decades. This new format has taken away the community feel chapel once had and even more so the aura withheld by the sense of tradition. By signing this petition one is supporting the return of a sense of community in our family of around five hundred and returning to the way chapel had been held for decades, students on the main bleachers, faculty/staff on either side, and having the speaker in the middle of the floor.

Walking across the gym floor in shoes this week felt wrong and reminded me exactly why I started this. I have been talking with others who remember the old way and it is clear that many people miss the community we once shared in that space.

Seeing the flood of people who remember the old chapel setup just like I do is overwhelming. It proves that we all feel this loss of community deeply and want to protect that gym floor together.

it just doesnt feel like chapel anymore without everyone on the bleachers. keep the shoes off the floor!
The Luther's seating arrangements in chapel doesn't show the same respect to the gym floor as those before. #saveourfloors.
One thing we can't bring back is the past. If we want something to stay, we need to fight for it to be here in this era of business and futuristic thinking. I wish I could experience so many things from the past like drive ins, but alas, since they were not popular or cool, they were pushed aside and forgotten. Let's keep this in the spotlight, so we don't regret it before it is too late. Traditions should be preserved.
I was at Luther in grade 9. It was a magical experience, wherein adventure could be bamboozled out of any corner, and anything could happen. Chapel was like a sitcom, where you knew where everyone would be, and you were among family. I want to get back to those times.
I understand why someone might think the new setup is a good idea, but the community feels divided, and the gym feels like it's not getting the respect it deserves
I am so happy someone has finally decided to do something about this!

totally agree with this. the new layout is way too spread out and loses that feeling of being a school family. bring back the old way.
