My name is Trinity Dean from Gruening Middle School and I am writing this petition for my classes Project Citizen assignment. Most people probably won't want to read this all but I swear it will be worth your time. For starters Project Citizen is a national project among students to make a difference in their communities and around them in the world. They are meant for students to get the power to stand up for what they believe is right or wrong and make a change. My classes Project Citizen topic is Sexual Assault; it is a huge problem in the state of Alaska. We have the highest rate of Sexual Assault and domestic violence per capita in the United States. This petition is to create awareness and help put an end to Sexual Assault. Having people around you in your community being harassed, threatened, assaulted sexually, and violence occurring to them is absolutely not something that people want to live with. We, as Alaskans, need to bring more awareness to this problem of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence and try to have it disappear as much as we can. One way to get more people knowing about the issue is to have better Public Service Announcements (PSA) being made and shown more often throughout the state. Another great way for awareness is through the program Green Dot. It is a fantastic website that tries to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, partner violence, abuse, and bullying/harassment. A great way for it to help significantly is by having Green Dot be installed and used in the ASD curriculum.
