more attention needs to be paid to safeguarding children's well-being; it's not all about getting the best ever grades.

A school the size of The Chase simply cannot make do without a counsellor, a fact that was clearly demonstrated on Monday the 8th. I hope that Mr Jacobs reads these comments and takes the only wise decision: reinstating the counsellor and the nurse.

I was shocked when I found out that the school had 'sacked' their school counsellor. Assuming this was due to a matter of 'cutting costs' The Chase has let down their students. You cannot put a price on the mental well being of a person, especially children and young people. High School is an extremely vulnerable time for anyone, without the added turmoil of family and relationship/social issues or mental health, and without any support this can be detrimental to a persons mental stability. You want students to achieve good grades? Then you need to address and support their development as people first.

All schools need this type of student support. Its naive to think money would be better spent elsewhere. Mental health issues cannot be ignored and its present in every school. Young people need someone to talk to to prevent it too. Sad decision.

It would appear, in hindsight, that this was a huge mistake by those at the top - a vital and key member of staff - saving money is clearly not as important as student welfare - extremely poor judgement by those in power - which begs the question, are they the right people to be in power?

Every school needs someone there to support the children, nothing stays the same in high school things are a lot different to that of primary school. Kids are growing up and they go through a lot they need that support in place for them.
