We, the undersigned, address the Republic of Turkey and the concerned authorities to encourage them, as a matter of urgency, to return the Alexander Sarcophagus and the Lycian Sarcophagus of Sidon to their rightful home, Lebanon.

These invaluable pieces of treasure are emblematic underpinnings in Phoenician and Lebanese heritage which were extracted from Sidon without local consent during the Ottoman occupation and are still on display in Turkish Museums, treated as trophies, having been removed from their fundamental context.

These artifacts are not simply pieces of history showcased in a museum. Rather, they are vital links to the identity and history of the Lebanese people. It is also our belief that Lebanon is now entitled to reclaim what is rightfully theirs, as other countries like Egypt have done through invoking their preserved heritage and landmarks.

With your signature, you are defending Lebanon’s cultural dignity and history.

We could put the petition forward to the Minister of Culture and other pertinent decision makers enabling us to reclaim these priceless treasures for the country if we reach a certain number of signatures.

Our past cannot be sold, and our culture is not a trophy. Our relics should be returned.

نحن، الموقّعين أدناه، نتوجّه إلى جمهورية تركيا والسلطات المعنيّة فيها، لنحضّهم، وبصورة عاجلة، على إعادة تابوت الإسكندر والتابوت الليسييني الصيداوي إلى موطنهم الأصلي، لبنان.

هالقطع الأثرية القيّمة هي من الدعائم الأساسية للتراث الفينيقي واللبناني، وتمّ استخراجها من مدينة صيدا بدون موافقة أهلها خلال فترة الاحتلال العثماني، ولا تزال معروضة اليوم في المتاحف التركية، وكأنها غنائم حرب، بعد أن انتُزعت من سياقها التاريخي الأساسي.

هالآثار مش بس قطع تاريخية معروضة بمتحف. هنّي صلة وصل حيوية بهوية وتاريخ الشعب اللبناني. ومن إيماننا العميق، صار من حق لبنان اليوم يطالب باسترجاعها، متل ما عملت دول تانية مثل مصر عبر استعادة تراثها ومعالمها المحفوظة.

بتوقيعك، بتدافع عن كرامة لبنان الثقافية وعن تاريخه.

وإذا جمعنا عدد كافي من التواقيع، فينا نقدّم العريضة لمعالي وزير الثقافة والمسؤولين المعنيين لنساعد بإرجاع هالكنوز الثمينة لوطنها الأم.

ماضينا ما بيتباع، وتراثنا مش غنيمة. آثارنا لازم ترجع.

Nous, les soussignés, nous adressons à la République de Turquie et aux autorités concernées pour les exhorter, en toute urgence, à restituer le Sarcophage d'Alexandre et le Sarcophage Lycien de Saïda à leur foyer légitime, le Liban.

Ces trésors inestimables constituent des fondements emblématiques du patrimoine phénicien et libanais. Ils ont été extraits de Saïda sans le consentement de la population locale durant l’occupation ottomane, et sont encore exposés aujourd'hui dans des musées turcs, traités comme des trophées, arrachés à leur contexte originel.

Ces artefacts ne sont pas de simples objets historiques présentés dans un musée. Ils sont des liens vitaux avec l’identité et l’histoire du peuple libanais. Nous croyons également que le Liban a désormais pleinement droit de revendiquer ce qui lui appartient, comme d'autres pays, tels que l'Égypte, l'ont fait en récupérant leur patrimoine et leurs monuments.

En apposant votre signature, vous défendez la dignité culturelle et historique du Liban.

Si nous atteignons un nombre suffisant de signatures, nous pourrons soumettre cette pétition au Ministre de la Culture ainsi qu'aux décideurs concernés, afin d'œuvrer pour la restitution de ces trésors inestimables.

Notre passé n’est pas à vendre, et notre culture n’est pas un trophée. Nos reliques doivent revenir chez elles.
