This is the internet. You can express yourself in any way you deem fit. You go by any name that suits you. Facebook has no place to say otherwise. Hey FB Police, a quick philosophy lesson for you: the word (or name) is not the thing! Shove off.

Please enough of this FB - you are kicking off Native Americans because of their real names and now this. There are plenty of other things you could ban or get rid of - like being a cyber bully.

I have personal nightmare experience with this shit and I think FB needs to get off this crap. Some people, especially women, have a really good reason not to want their full real name out there. Stalker, anyone? Identity theft? Asshole employers who feel they need to judge your private life? Plenty of good reasons.

Seriously?????????? This is a great page. I have several friends who are in law enforcement and teaching who do not use their real name of FB....should I forward those to the FB police?

They got me too, Granny....Facebook is being ridiculous about the pseudonym issue. They keep whining about how knowing who you are is what keeps you 'safe' online' but this is not the case for everyone. There are battered women who are trying to stay anonymous to prevent abusive ex spouses/lovers from finding them and their children. There are Pagans who want to retain a degree of anonymity online to dissuade Christian employers from terminating their employment. There are entertainers who use Facebook as a means by which to promote their businesses and services, under the names on which they have built careers and secured their livelihoods..There are Native Americans who are not allowed to use their Native American names if they are NOT listed on tribal ID cards; even though the names are perfectly legal and in accordance to tribal records. There are transgendered persons who do NOT identify with the physical gender or names imposed upon them at birth. Facebook is being unfair to PEOPLE, who have every right to remain safe, employed, successful, acknowledged for their tribal affiliations, and afforded the opportunity to identify in such a way that makes them comfortable. Enough. Facebook needs to get over themselves and start treating account holders with a little respect; as WE are the one's off who's backs their billions of dollars are made.

If people can put obserd words and phrases I their names then this woman can use her nickname, her trademark persona. Celebrities do it all the time.
