As of today (April 25th 2016) the Westport Public School System has blocked many different websites included the much loved and necessary Facebook. Students from Staples High School are especially feeling the change in environment. Blocking Facebook hinders students ability to communicate about school work and clubs. Ellen Dalen class of '17 finds this change in policy to "prevents students from communicating productively for classes, clubs and athletic teams". Not only does it effect students who are trying to succeed, but also the students who have free periods and want to access the popular social media accounts. Facebook is not the only application that has been blocked. Messenger, Instagram, Reddit and so many more have been blocked. What's next? Netlfix...? SCHOOLOGY???

I have requested a formal meeting with the head of the IT department to discuss the criteria used for these site blocks. We are currently drafting a proposal that outlines how these platforms facilitate legitimate academic and extracurricular collaboration.

The volume of support has secured a formal meeting with the school administration to discuss these site restrictions. I am finalizing the list of specific academic and organizational impacts to present as our primary evidence.

this is stupid can people really not last 7 hrs not on facebook. There's this thing called talking face to face, you dont need wifi and you get a response almost instantly
My data bill is high enough because of the crappy wifi... please don't make me use data to get on social media networks too.
WE NEEd FACEBOOK!! classes have Facebook groups for information and u can message people in the school on there for homework and test info/ class info. It's important. Plus what r people supposed to do in free???
How am I meant to keep up with the fam if they finna block Facebook and insta, pretty messed up bruh

For sports, if there are changes in schedules or plans, then we post in the Facebook group. If Facebook is blocked, then the captains of different sports cannot communicate with their teams which causes a lot of confusion.
