Bring Backyard Chickens to Cambridge

With constant inflation and a weak Canadian dollar, food prices are set to rise in Canada for the years to come. It is imperative that we get our fundamental right to raise chicken in our backyards and move towards a more sustainable and ethical way of living. Please let me know how else I can help to achieve this goal. Thank you

I believe that owning and tending to chickens would be a great way to provide food and know exactly where your food is coming from. As farming is becoming more and more industrial I would like to know that the animals providing the food are being treated properly and live comfortably.

Lets figure out a way to mitigate concerns and bring people together in support of our children and sustainable living!

Allowing backyard chickens is a step in the right direction towards food security and better health. Chickens are very compatible with urban environments.

Please allow us to have chickens in our backyards...not only its a source of food but we can teach our kids to care of them and we also help reduce the industry's bad practices of inhumane treatment for hens

Come on Cambridge!! Let's be progressive and promote home grown food!! I got a few day old chicks two years ago and then found out I couldn't have chickens in Cambridge so I gave them back to the farm.

I have longed to raise a few laying hens for years but because of our strange bylaws have not been able to. My children miss out on the amazing learning opportunity that pet chickens are. Backyard chickens were a proud part of our heritage and Canadians were encouraged to raise them alongside victory gardens. Chickens can sustainbly replace artificial pesticides and fertilizers for gardeners. Just as I had to fight bylaws years ago for the right to hang my laundry out in an age of energy conservation, it is frustrating to watch and wait while other progressive communities around us allow chickens while Cambridge fails to move with the times. I love being a resident of Galt, but have been considering a move to Guelph over this issue.

I live/work in Galt and I support chickens on residential homesteads. The benefits greatly outweigh any negatives. It may not be the right choice for every household, but should be allowed in Cambridge. Thank you.

Why not? I have an extra large lot/backyard and if it is allowed in other cities then it should be allowed in mine.

Start out by issuing permits to keep chickens based on yard size, area of applicant etc. I live in Preston on a. Very large lot. we need to teach our kids to grow their own food.
