Backyard chickens have many benefits, including: being a productive use of available land, bringing your food source as local as possible, reducing your family's dependence on industrial agriculture, reducing the need for energy-intensive industrial agriculture, controlling the quality and source of your food, reintegrating with nature, reconnecting children with their food sources, encouraging permaculture, and community resilience to the fluctuation and instability of food prices.
Allowing backyard chickens is a step in the right direction; it is sustainable, progressive and allows us to participate in a positive way in an every changing world.

We have been looking for the opportunity to approach council about allowing a few chickens in backyard coops! My daughter was hoping to come to council with a proposal. Please allow people to have this small ability to grow food for our families.
I would love to have chickens in my neighbourhood, since it gives a feeling of a healthy and alive neighbourhood. In my opinion listening to possible chicken 'noise' cannot be any worse than listening to dogs bark. Indeed it would be a pleasant to listen to.
With the price of eggs and massive inflation people can't afford to eat. This would allow people the have eggs that will open up ways for them to bake and Cook more healthier meals at home. It's a simple right that most citys have and i feel cambridge should join ranks.
My Grandfather started Shaver poultry in Galt over 80 yrs ago by raising chickens in his backyard. Shaver poultry went on to become the biggest independent poultry breeder in the world. We should always encourage entrepreneurs!
As a former chicken owner in another city I am disappointed to not have this opportunity in Cambridge. Small flocks of chickens (3-12 birds) are not noisy, stinky or otherwise a nuisance. They are easy to maintain and provide many benefits.
My family and I express our strong support for allowing residents to raise a small, manageable number of backyard hens within our community. This initiative aligns perfectly with modern goals of sustainable living, local food production, and environmental responsibility. Let's go cambridge

"Urban farming" as it is often called is a great step towards sustainability. No gas required to drive to the store and no exhaust pollution, It allows people to learn valuable skills for real, rather than online "farm games". This is a bylaw change that definitely has value.
