I may not have my own but I think people should be allow provided they are in a coop and not allowed to run free.

I live in Preston and have chickens in my yard. Hens only. 9 of them. I had roosters and they are loud, obnoxious, and generally evil! Hehh. The hens are sweethearts. They mow my grass, eat my scraps, control bugs, fertilize my garden, and yard, provide me with eggs and hours of entertainment just simply watching them be birds! My children understand eggs do not just come from a store, the understand how to look after another life, and love finding treasures (eggs)! We know that our chickens are NOT laying PAIN or SUFFERING eggs. Our eggs taste different from the store. Don't believe me... try it yourself! Creamy.. delicious... This is a sustainable way of life. My chickens do not smell as I clean their house regularly (free compost!!! Hot stuff tho!). If they get bugs, diatomaceous earth (sp?) is your best friend! They need to be nurtured, but then you will reap the rewards! My ladies, for the most part, are quiet and clean. I would not have any issues if everyone in Cambridge had the ladies in the fashion that I have them. Clean, protected and nurtured.... now think about the factory farms... Clean? Protected? Nurtured? I don't think so. This is how it should have been done from the beginning.

Maybe I will build a coup in my back yard in Preston, I can if I want and the city can't stop me. In the city, but zoned for it.

I am wanting to have backyard chicken. Just a few. To know they are taken care of humanly and able to roam the yard is a huge benefit for them. Also, I have grandchildren to enjoy what I did when I was a child.

We should defiantly be able to do this. It would give the consumer a much healthier option in poultry and eggs.. In controlling what we feed our chickens and how they are brought up.

With constant inflation and a weak Canadian dollar, food prices are set to rise in Canada for the years to come. It is imperative that we get our fundamental right to raise chicken in our backyards and move towards a more sustainable and ethical way of living. Please let me know how else I can help to achieve this goal. Thank you
