I attended S. Peter’s from 2001-2006 and I would have continued on to Sixth Form too, had I not relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree at one of America’s most prestigious music schools, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Though I am extremely thankful for my experiences at S. Peter’s, the best memories I have are not of the music department. I sang in the choir at St. Peter’s church, and that (along with my piano lessons) are what shaped me most in that direction. What molded me most were academic classes – especially science. Though I am currently a professional musician, I am grateful for the broad base that S. Peter’s offered. My experience with Mr West was one that demonstrated him to be one of the most positive, passionate, and inspiring teachers. I found the teachers I experienced at high school in the United States to be extremely lacking in comparison to what I experienced at S. Peter’s. I distinctly remember wishing that there were more teachers like Mr West – teachers who neither coddled, nor dumbed-down, but still allowed the student to feel confident in what they were doing. Teachers, who like Mr West, create an environment where the subject-matter is genuinely exciting. I’m sure this is precisely what he was doing in his latest (albeit unfortunate) experiment. Mr West always tried to make what he was teaching apply to the real word, and he and a few other key teachers are directly responsible for any success I might achieve today.

This was so obviously an accident. If the boy who was shot is willing to forgive and forget, why can't those in authority. Shame on them, no compassion shown for this incident at all.

I believe Richard West's dismissal should be reversed immediately and that he should be reinstated in his roll as a science teacher at St Peter's Collegiate School. As a former St Peter's pupil (attended in the 60's) and grandfather to an attending pupil, I'm utterly dismayed at the treatment and negative decision given out to this individual. Even the pupil involved in this incident believes the situation doesn't warrant Mr West's dismissal. Mr West deserves a second chance and the school governors and headmaster should reconsider their decision and give Mr West's job back.

Just read about Mr West in the Shropsire Star,i don't this teacher at all but i think it is adisgrace that he should loose his job and have a mark like this against his name.

I am shocked at this news,Mr West taught my daughter and because of his excellent teaching my daughter gained so much knowledge and confidence from this great teacher and passed her exam. Bring back Mr West!r

An utter disgrace. Quite frankly the best teacher I've ever had and the only reason I opted to do A level physics. I'm truly saddened and appalled my the boards decision. I just wish Mr West all the best and hope this horrid mess gets resolved quickly!

He is the best teacher I ever had!! It's a really awful decision and he should not be disgraced in this way after many years of first class teaching!
