Accidents happen, can't wrap kids up in cotton wool and they need to learn. Seems he's a good teacher, get him back at work.

The all to too eager education system worried about their standing and not the standing of a revered teacher who had a misfortunate, unavoidable accident of which neither the pupil or anyone else present (as I read) hold him responsible for. A simple cautionary warning for future experiments should have sufficed. Re-instate him AND with an apology.

How can someone be sacked when the matter should have been dealt with by the Head. This outcome is ridiculous, it's 'covering yourself' gone mad and should be reversed. Yes, the experiment went wrong, but to fire a good teacher is madness. I think a weak, magagerial mix up!

I also had the privilege of being taught by this man in the late 90s when I was in the joint sixth form at St. Edmund's. A truly creative and inspiring teacher. This is a typical decision of vision less management, backed by bureaucratic governance. Rethink it. Now.

This is a travesty not only for the Students of St. Peters, but also for a School that prides itself on a fair and spiritual approach to work and life. The Leaders of the school need to think on the fact that being a 'Leader' is not all being about being 'seen' to react but its about sticking up for your people - giving them a fair and equal chance for success and standing behind them. The world today seems scared to see an accident as an accident - people are always after someone to blame - this is not only wrong and weak, but I feel that Christ would not have turned his back on such a situation either - My daughter often spoke about Mr West and he certainly had a very positive effect on her confidence. The Leaders need to be brave and reinstate this fine man and great teacher immediately - thats the right thing to do and they should be strong and do so.
