Mr West is clearly an inspirational teacher, this appears to be a gross overreaction.

What an over-reaction on the part of the school, just when we need good practical teachers who get through to their pupils.

Which teacher union is in? If not, shows why he and every teacher needs to be. A Union can only represent you if you a member BEFORE an event.

We need more teachers like Mr West - not fewer.

If the children and young adults are standing up and requesting for this Teacher then I support them, clearly Mr West is looked up to by them and the young lad who was involved clearly states it wasn't unintentional and was just an accident. I hope hope this teachers appeal is approve and he is able to return to work and inspire the children's future. Team West.

Practical demonstrations are an essential way to motivate young people to be interested in science. There appears to have been a small miscalculation in the acceptable level of risk involved in the case of this particular demonstration. For the SMT and governors to react along these lines sends the message to scientists (across the country) not to attempt exciting science demonstrations. This will be extremely damaging: both to students’ education, and to the science teaching profession. As a highly experienced manager of science teachers in schools in the UK, I urge the school to reconsider this decision.

Mr West has always put 110% into both his class teaching and one to one help, I find it ridiculous that such a freak accident has ended up in the best science teacher in the department losing his job. Absolute joke, and now I have to carry on my A2 physics without him. Surely the students have now been put at risk with their exam results?

I have worked with Richard West and concurr that he would never ever intentionally put anyone at risk. He cares too much about the students he teaches. No one was hurt surely some guidence around the incident would be better than a sacking. The country is short of good physics teachers!!!!

Accidents happen, no harm was done and the loss of a good science teacher is criminal. Please don't be blinded by health & safety madness and reinstate mr. West!

This seems like an over-reaction driven by the fear of being sued? If this culture persists all but the most banal experiments will take place and our pupils will never know how to manage risk.

An utterly disgraceful decision to sack this popular science teacher. Shame on the school board.

Great teachers are like diamonds, hard to find. Why would you throw that away over an accident. Disgraceful.
