We want to bring back the monkey bars to the Grey Lynn park. The monkey bars, and other equipment, were taken away when the playground was recently upgraded.

The new playground is only challenging for children up to about 5 years of age. Previously the park could be used by children of all ages. The playground used to be a meeting place for school aged children. Now the children don't want to go there. This means that the local children have to travel away from their community in order to play.

Updates

March 18, 2017

The local council clearly underestimated how much this community values our kids having a real place to play. This momentum proves they messed up by gutting the equipment and we are not going to let them ignore us any longer.

My boys (aged 7 and almost 5 years) no longer want to play at Grey Lynn Park as the playground is just for "babies" - you can imagine my frustration given it's our local park! What a shame that older children weren't considered as part of the rebuild. Nice job on Western Park playground by the way but what a missed opportunity not applying that same thinking to Grey Lynn Park playground.

Definitely a big deal to my two kids who have grown up since toddlers at grey Lynn park playground, now 9 and 11 they both miss the monkey bars and often scoff at how there is little to do unless they take their skateboards.

The new design has no equipment to improve upper body strength. Our 4 year old misses the monkey bars greatly - there were 2 in the old playground but NONE in the new one. The new equipment is simply not challenging enough.

This is my local park but I don't go as it isn't equipped with monkey bars. I drive all the way to Mission bay to use there new outdoor gym.

Our household, and much of the wider Greybeard lynn community by the conversations I've had, have all been very disappointed with the new playground at Grey Lynn Park. To have undergone a rebuild and make the playground only attractive to preschoolers, toddlers & very young schoolchildren is a huge oversight. And one I expect the Council itself realises given its opening has not appeared in any press or Council communications like the other playground openings across Auckland. With such a huge, and hugely under-utilised park as GL, to not have created something to the same standards and age-range as Myers, Western, Waterway or Onewa is mystifying. We do realise that council is investing in the pump track but that also has a very niche focus and while we're excited about, and supportive of, it - it's not the same as a playground with appeal to children over 6-years old. We do accept that we are blessed with numerous playgrounds within a drive of Grey Lynn, but a local park should serve its local community with walking distance without the need for car travel. That smaller parks than ours have been fitted with bigger, better and wider-appeal playgrounds all over Auckland is mystifying. Please at least bring back the monkey bars so that our older kids have something active to do within their own neighbourhood! Thank you.

Like the new playground development but over 8 year olds find it a little dull . The monkey bars are always such a great hit and fabulous for children's upper body and core strength.

Hi I have an al ist 8 year old that refers to the play ground as a place for little kids to go. She misses the large slides and more challenging ropes and bars that where there before
