Removing 5 star ratings has wrecked my whole music rating system! I've spent a LOT of time and energy rating my library, this is a TERRIBLE decision! Loss of control was EXACTLY why I was hesitant to move to a streaming service. I thought Google Music was the answer and I was wrong.

I would like a 5 star rating added to song tags. When I filter, I tend to use the following:
1 star - delete.
2 stars - song file is messed up.
3 starts - Worth keeping to listen to full albums.
4 starts - like to listen to on a regular bases.
5 starts - I can listen to this on a loop, and like it.

I can live without a sophisticated rating system if i have an easy to use arbitrary tagging system and the ability to construct arbitrary algorithmic playlists.

5 star gives you way more information than a thumbs up/down.

Bring back the 5 star rating.
I have lost my preference. So all my hard work to rate my song is now just waste of time.

As mentioned by Google, the star ratings still exist, but you cannot see or change them.
I really need star ratings, so I decided to add an expermiental feature to my Chrome extension Prime Player (https://goo.gl/xkyeKR) to be able to see/change the star ratings again.

No comment. I'm speechless. Looking out for Apple Music, even on my Android. Or Spotify again. Sad to say that.

Why would you take this away? There are plenty of songs I like and a few that I LOVE, suddenly I can only love and hate!

I really don't understand the rationale for removing a useful feature that gave users freedom in how they rate and manage their music and replace it with one which has no freedom whatsoever. A simple "love it / hate it" makes no sense at all for music. If some people want that basic system then let them have it as an option. Simply make it a settings choice, stars or thumbs. Forcing these system changes on loyal users feels like a smack in the face and is very disappointing. Like many others I will probably use Google play music less and less now, especially if you continue to dumb-down your applications.

Bring it back! Why not have both of the systems? For those who are too lazy or don't care about rating, keep the thumb-useless system. For everyone else who really likes to listen to their songs with some organization, bring it back!

bring the back 5 star rating system or back to iTunes i go...
iTunes has always been the best platform for very large music collections.
I wanted to commit to google's platform and intended to dive into all access eventually as well ( i enjoyed my limited subscription). but my collection is too vast and too fine tuned to waste a lot of work on a simple thumbs up/down decision to rate my music.

Google seems to be stripping out useful features from a number of their products. This is a distressing trend.

What a miserable and unexpected decision. Why wasn't there a lengthy community discussion with shared polling counts so that people who think like me could see that we are in the minority. Perhaps a more detailed explanation of why a thumbs rating (exclusively) is so "integral" to Play Music's future. I think Google under estimates the musical sophistication of its Play Music customers by forcing an up or down rating system upon them. For me, this edict steps on the "Don't be evil" promise.

After over ten years of getting buried deep into the gmail-google world, this is the worst decision so far. Google Reader was a treasured item, but removing the fivestarsystem was really unexpected, totally unnecessary and it made my hours of rating seem like a complete waste. One should think a company who sells music kinda likes music as well. You can't both like music and the thumbs-system.

Was an optional setting, no reason to get rid of it. I spent so much time going through all my music to give each one a specific 1-5 rating, and now it's all reduced to Yes or No basically. Terrible decision.
