A notification from Faria School Office sent to parents of all 4th graders indicates that Science Camp will be canceled for 5th graders starting the school year of 2016-2017.

Faria is the only school in the Cupertino School District canceled the Science Camp. Given all the benefits that students can earn from the Science Camp, we, the undersigned, are concerned parents who urge our staffs in Faria to act now to keep the Science Camp for 5th graders in school year 2016-2017.

It was a tradition in Faria that the kids remembered most fondly as a coming- of- age rite of passage and hence I am signing this petition despite having no more kids in Faria for the coming academic year .

Science camp is an excellent source of educational experience for students in 5th grade. The science camp not only provides students science related knowledge, but it also provides long lasting life skill. Our older son still cherishes those moments. We would like to request to re-instate the science camp

It's a tradition that sets a new bar for independence and is like a passage to middle school. It's an experience that cannot be compared with knowledge based science field trip. They are two different things altogether.

I had volunteered for my elder daughter's science camp and cannot tell u how much these new fifth grade kids are going to miss, in the respect of fun and learning. This is a big loss for our children. They shouldn't be the set of children that this unfair experience is being tested on.

5th grade Science camp is practically a historical tradition -- a prolonged period of independence for kids, on the cusp of middle school, which facilitates tremendous confidence and strength of character and community. It's shocking that our school took this decision unilaterally to discontinue it.

My son went to science camp last year and I totally agree that it's a very educational, fun and engaging program for kids. With no parents around the sense of responsibility kicks in. In the process they also understand themselves better and can appreciate even small things more than ever. I totally recommend this program for kids. I hope Faria continues this tradition.
