Mr Bastian is by far one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. He truly loved what he did and he certainly made a difference. Half of what's wrong with society anymore is that children aren't properly disciplined and feel like they can walk all over their elders. Alexandria Central will be making a huge mistake if they get rid of him! I truly fear when my daughter goes to school in this district... they are heading down a steep slope with new administration.

Mr.Bastian is an extremely good history teacher and is the reason the global regents scores have been so high multiple years in a row.

Mr. Bastian was an amazing teacher when I attended high school at ACS. He was my favorite teacher in fact. Some children just need to learn respect, especially for their teachers and parents. And if they can't respect then they should at least be able to handle the consequences of their disrespect. He raised his voice, not his hands.

It never felt like you taught to earn a wage it always felt like you taught to make a difference in our lives. We dont realize how much teaching takes away from a personal life, but between coaching soccer, teaching us and taking care of your precious little one you've managed to hold it all together... Discipline goes hand in hand with teaching and i believe your criticism has been more important because they have made us all what we are today. Dont ever give up on doing what you love. Mr. Bastian is still my favorite teacher after being graduated for a year and a half. I had to take all my history classes a year late starting with Mr Bastian's 9th grade class and he got me through both years with all of his support. He is a great teacher.

I guess I'll start with his influence on my acedemic career. 10th grade global studies is not the most interesting subject in high school. This man still manages to prepare entire classes to not only pass the nys regents but achieve mastery. I scored a 98, which was on the low end of my class, if I do recall. He may demand a lot for his students (like attention, participation and respect), but I think his results should speak for themselves. He makes class interesting, relevant and productive. The man knows the test inside and out and can lead students to grades they never thought they could achieve.
Moving on to his influence in my athletic career. I started the ACS varsity soccer program my freshman year. I think I was maybe 110 pounds soaking wet. I practiced hard in the preseason but was prepared to start the season on the bench. One player got injured, he looked down the bench and said "Kearns, looks like you're in." He was more confident in my ability than I was at that point. I played in every game after that until I graduated. Our first season we went maybe 6-10, the second we were 8-8. I remember that distinctly because that's the only thing he said in my third preseason. "8-8, they don't think you're any better than that, but I know this team has the heart. " He saw the talent and inspired the confidence in an entire team of kids. We didn't lose a game in the regular season that year. He took a less than .500 team and transformed them into an undefeated, league leader in goals, points, assists, and shut outs. 2 of 3 kids on the team from my graduating class went on to play college soccer.
He did yell, relentlessly, even that year. We would beat teams by 6 and he'd still lay into us after the game. Because he saw a lack of passion, attitude and performance. Not because he didn't like us or wasn't proud, but because he knew we could do better. He isn't satisfied with mediocrity and pushed kids to be their best. What a crime eh. That's an attitude I c

Mr. Bastian was one of my favorite teachers and he was a great person. I spent time in the hospital during my time in his class and he always sent work and help if I needed it. He is supportive and truly a great teacher.

Robert Bastian is an incredible educator. I have only the upmost respect for him. When I attended ACS, he truly was passionate in making all students learn to the best of their abilities. I believe the situation with the student has been thrown way out of proportion. They need to evaluate other teachers before even putting Robert Bastian in a catergory as a negative human being. He has done incredible things to ACS to only better it as a school and even community. Shame on the superintendent to even have that thought come accross their mind. I am ashamed to be even an alumni of that school how it has been running in recent years. I am a proud purple ghost but at this rate it's becoming an embarrassment on how they are running ACS. Robert Bastian has fought disease and came back even stronger. To treat him with such disrespect is appalling. He needs to be back immediately.
