Reinstate Colonel Hunter. I know some of his cadets and the positive effect he has on them is remarkable. His program turns out people we can be proud of.

Whatever the problem with the Vice it can be resolved. Taking away a mentor could hurt this school immensely.

Although, I don’t know the full story behind both sides I can only speak on what I am reading and what I have experienced in my situation. I live in Lawrence, MA, but I was born and brought up in Salem,MA and I have to say I am very proud of both cities for having and maintaining a JROTC. I have seen first had the level of dedication, commitment, integrity and honor that is instilled in each child that has been lead by someone that hasn’t allowed the politics of the city to change the structure of the program or uninvolved parents or school personnel to influence the consequences or lower the threshold of respect and tolerance demanded by this honorable leaders. Most people that know me know I not one to let many things “slide” with my son, but with that said, at times, I too have cringed when a punishment has been handed down, or when I feel that another adult is pushing a child to a higher, unattainable level of standards for that situation. However, I do I have stop and think how many times have my “gentle ways or excuses” allowed for more, more opportunities for acts of disrespect and disregard for another human being, where it has become the “norm” to see such behavior. I have to be honest with myself and stop blaming others for not wavering and stop asking the questions “what is happening to our youth or where has the decency gone” but doing something about it. I have to truly step back to support and thank the men and woman in these roles. They pick up my slack so my child, or any child, doesn’t get left behind in this world, to remind them that they are valuable. These brave men and woman, took an oath to serve and protect not only on the battle field, but now do it everyday in our schools, always fighting, to uphold the basic core values of being a human because every life matters, finding ways to push you beyond your own personal limits, and prove you’re never alone and one day you will pass these lessons on. Like I said, I don’t know the whole story, or

I have known Lt.Col. Mike Hunter for over 40 years. He is a true leader of men. In a society where young men & women need to learn about respect, Mike was there to guide them and help them grow. This a major loss for the students of SHS. I suggest you reset your compass and bring back Lt.Col.Mike Hunter.

I am a cadet at the Salem High School JROTC and I am personally shocked and appalled of what they did to the Lt. Colonel. It’s ridiculous as it is illegal for them to fire him from this if they didn’t actually fight each other

Having taught at SHS for 28 years, I saw a steady decline in students being disciplined by administration for breaking rules. Rules must be followed and there must be consequences when rules are broken. The high school has a duty to prepare students for the “real” world and I have absolute faith that Instructor Hunter was doing what needed to be done. The administration should have backed him up. Firing him sends a message to all students that rules can be broken and there will be no consequences for infractions. Shame on the administration.

Lt Col Hunter only wants the best for the young men and women for whom he is responsible. I personally have seen the respect he garners from those he take under his wing. The students deserve him back.

I was literally heart broken when I heard this happen. This man truly cares for each and every kid he encounters. I have literally seen him transform lives because of his heart for each and every kid he comes across. A good teacher will do this and make an impact on many by reaching that one kids heart. I have seen him do this with my own eyes. You will be doing an grave injustice to so many young men and woman if you dont bring him back. He truly is an amazing good man.
