We the public of Scotland appeal to Police Scotland to change the policy on using unmarked police vehicles for stealth tax collection from the motorist. We ask that all unmarked cars are replaced with marked cars to create a more visual deterrent to crime. We believe that hiding in unmarked cars, waiting for motorists to commit a crime, i.e. speeding, purely so that you can stop them and issue a fine is totally wrong, a more obvious police presence would not only be a visual deterrent to motoring offences but many other offences too. Doing so would also help to improve public relations between the public and the police force, which appear to be at an all time low. Cameras in towns and villages, at accident black-spots and average speed cameras are enough to cover those areas that need more attention. We also believe that traffic conviction numbers are being used to falsify solved crime figures to the benefit of Police Scotland.
