I am fortunate to not only call mike a friend of mine, but to also call him a mentor. The time and effort and honest care that I have watched mike puts into every season, with every kid, is truly unbelievable. He is one of the rare coaches who honestly takes coaching seriously, and TRULY values his students and athletes. I have watched him give hope and meaning to many kids lives, in an area with a much lower socioeconomic demographic where there really isn't much to start out with. Put his incredible and "hall of fame" coaching athletic record aside... and step back and view the big picture of how he impacts the lives of the kids (and their families) in the long term sense of things, and it's utterly amazing to truly witness how much he truly impacts the local community. He is a local boy who believes in the people and their spirit. Bring back mike! He is a once in a lifetime type of person/coach/resource with a heart of gold that is usually larger then most!

I use to go to luling I had many friends that ran for coach Barnett. I saw his impact on their lives and the true man he was. I saw how much they looked up to him and how much they cared for him. Coach Barnett deserves to be there no matter the circumstances.

Coach Barnett has created a the most powerfully positive three generational impact on the boys and girls of Luling, TX. He has already shaped the lives of grandkids that are not born yet because what Mike Barnett teaches is not simply running it is the essence of being the best person you can be, the core of a value system every American youth should have, but unfortunately doesn't because their culture is shaped by corporations. Coach Barnett has had an impact on Seven Lakes, Southlake Carroll, Boerne, College Station, Hebron, etc. Unfortunately administration at the campus and district level are also blinded by this impact, because they don't look for it. They too have sold their own value system away. Coach Barnett is a legacy in which parents, kids, and future grandkids, will be reciting the "one liners" of becoming truly a better person.

Seen that administration do the same thing to Hensley, Manning, even reassigned Lymas before he passed away. Great coaches and teachers who COULD HAVE had tenure, COULD HAVE had sustained success.
Now that Mike is in trouble the community will finally stand up in a half-assed manner?
Sorry, that superintendent and school board have been doing this to true stakeholders for years. Wake up, Luling! Glover is your problem!

It's time the citizens of Luling began fighting for their own. So many homegrown teachers have been pushed out. I don't know a district that doesn't celebrate their own graduates coming back to teach and influence and make a difference in the lives of their own. Coach Barnett is one hell of a teacher. Strong teachers who make such a huge impact in students' lives are so hard to come by. Why on earth would the district want him gone?? It makes absolutely no sense.
