Brent Grulke was Creative Director of SXSW for 20 years before his untimely death in August 2012. Over the years he championed and curated free concerts for nearly a million music fans at Auditorium Shores and his legacy would be well-remembered by dedicating Brent Grulke Plaza near the site of these shows. Brent was an ambassador to the world for Austin and one of its signature events. Businesses and artists around the globe were introduced to Austin because of Brent’s never-ending travels seeking out musicians to play at SXSW. His efforts helped Austin earn its self-proclaimed title as “Live Music Capital of the World.”
