I actually just got the word that they are officially canceling the appearance and ending the affiliation which honestly feels like a fever dream because I keep refreshing the page waiting for it to change back. You all were incredible for stepping up and pushing for this because looking at …
We, the undersigned, affirm that we reject the Yukon Humane Society’s association with the dog training methods of Brad Pattison as published in his books Synergy (2009), Brad Pattison Unleashed (2010) and Brad Pattison's Puppy Book: A Step-by-Step Guide to the First Year of Training (2012).
We are opposed to the methods described in his published works of how to pin a dog (a minimum of 20 times in a one hour period), of how to pinch a puppy’s ear until it yelps, and of how to strike a dog with a closed fist.
We believe these methods are in direct conflict with the humane treatment of animals and are in direct conflict with the mandate of the Humane Society. Studies have shown that these types of training methods may have detrimental outcomes, especially on shelter dogs with predisposed anxiety and issues.
We would ask the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter - Yukon Humane Society to speak out for the humane treatment of animals in their care, as well as territory wide, by advocating for training strategies that do not cause pain or fear to their animals, and by canceling Brad Pattison’s upcoming seminar/appearance in Whitehorse on September 15th and 16th and to end any and all further affiliation with Brad Pattison, his trainees (CTEs) and their methods.
I honestly did not think this would gain this much steam so fast because usually people just scroll past these things but seeing the feedback roll in makes me feel like maybe we can actually change how they view these training styles. It is intense reading all your stories about dogs and what they go through and I am just so surprised that so many people feel this same heavy weight in their hearts about those specific books.

This guy is a total fraud. There is absolutely no reason to hit a dog to train it. My rescue dog would be a nervous wreck if anyone tried that stuff on him.

I cant believe the shelter even considered this. Pinning a dog 20 times an hour is insane and cruel. Shame on you Yukon Humane Society.
