As the Spanos family and the NFL look to move the Chargers from San Diego to Los Angeles, they are working under two assumptions about the fan base in San Diego. The first is that San Diegans would support the Los Angeles Chargers. The second is that is that fans are ignorant to the fact that the NFL shares revenue, so even if a San Diegan chose not to support the Los Angeles Chargers, but another NFL team, the Chargers and the Spanos family would still receive revenue from that fan. It is proposed then, that if the NFL chooses to move the San Diego Chargers to Los Angeles, that San Diegans (and anyone else who wishes to participate) would boycott the NFL. While the Los Angeles market is bigger than the San Diego market, is the NFL willing to completely lose a market of over Three million people? Are they willing to trade a market that has supported the Chargers for over 50 years for a market that has lost three professional football teams? Are their sponsors willing to lose the attention of that market? During the time that San Diego has supported the Chargers, the two other cities with teams applying to move to Los Angeles (Oakland and St. Louis) have both lost NFL teams. This demonstrates that San Diego is the most loyal and stable market of the three, and the one that the NFL should not alienate. By signing this petition you can make the NFL aware that they are risking losing a large and stable market in exchange for a market that has yet to maintain a team.
