Yes, save a pet is doing a wonderful thing by wanting to establish a permanent shelter. Yes, this is money well spent. Yes, this is very much needed in monroe county. We, the undersigned, are in full support of the idea; however, we ask you, the residents of monroe county and those who have signed the petition to establish this shelter, to take time and think for a moment of the indirect negative effects of establishing a shelter in this specific location. Would you be in full support of this idea for this shelter if it was to be built right next door to your house and property? What about your kids who love to hunt and fish...how could that be possible with an animal shelter right next door? In addition to barking dogs, traffic is also something to think about. Let's say, for example, there is 50 stray animals at the shelter and it takes 3 visits within a week from different families before one animal is adopted. Do the math ladies and gentlemen. Employees must drive there everyday. Vets. People dropping off strays. Adopting animals. If you decided to build your house in a secluded area on land that your family has owned for almost 4 generations because you wanted peacefulness and a prime hunting location, how would you feel about an animal shelter right next door? In no way are we dismissing the idea of an animal shelter in monroe county - a permanent shelter location is badly needed. On the other hand, we are are asking the people of monroe county to think twice before they fully support the idea of an animal shelter on this specific 22 acre property in a residential area. We believe it would be very simple to find another location for such a shelter in a non-residential area within the county. Thank you, and we all hope to gain your support!
