To the best of my knowledge, Bolani refers to filled bread. Bolani is usually filled with seasoned potatoes, chives/leeks, pumpkin, lentils, spinach, or sweet potatoes. Bolani is served with either plain and or seasoned yogurt sauce, garlic/mint kefir cheese and chutney (cilantro/pesto mint sauce).
I have seen the following products marked as Bolani sold by a company other than East West Gourmet Foods, Inc or recipes for Bolani or products marked for use with Bolani.

- Leeks/Chives Bolani (bolani filled with seasoned leeks/chives)

I was just checking the comments again and it is honestly wild to see how many people know exactly what bolani is supposed to be despite this company trying to pretend it is some obscure brand name. People keep sending me photos of other places that have been selling these for ages and it just proves that the Trademark Office needs to wake up because this is basically a staple food item for so many cultures.

I honestly never thought this would gain this much steam but here we are and people are actually confirming that bolani is just food that everyone knows about. It feels surreal to see so many of you backing this up because it proves that a simple generic term cannot just be locked away by one company for their own gain.

Stop bullying the small businesses that make real food!
Bolani is a generic food name just like pizza or burrito. trademarking it is ridiculous and wrong.
My family has been making bolani for generations. How can a company claim a cultural dish as their own property???
This is total corporate greed plain and simple.
I was shocked when I found out they actually got this approved. Bolani is obviously a descriptive term for the bread itself not a brand name.
