Martin Marietta has submitted an application to contruct an asphalt plant at 7267 Weddington Road, Concord NC 28027.
This is less than one half of a mile (2000 feet) from the Carl A Furr Elementary School and about 1000 feet from some of the nearest houses in the Riverwalk community.
The smell from the plant alone will ruin our neighborhood in terms of air quality and housing value.
Toxic air pollutants compounds emitted from asphalt plants include polycyclic aromatic compounds+ , volatile organic compounds, metals and hydrogen sulfide.

An asphalt plant does not belong so close to an elementary school and residential neighborhood. Martin Marietta has plenty of other available commercial / industrial locations in Cabarrus County. We do not want this asphalt plant on Weddington Rd. in Concord!
With the green-way being built along Rocky River I can not see how an asphalt plant would do any good for the tourism or anything positive for the area. These plants stick around for a long time. I am against it.
The smell of hot asphalt has always mad me nausea . This propossed plant lies directly SW 1 1/2 mi. from us and the Prevailing winds are always from the SW. Please -Please put this somewhere away from people. There are plenty of vacant places still around. This is awful.
We just bought this lovely home. I do not want my children to be subject to such poison. I know people who have kids with asthma who live close by; the air pollution could cause them to suffer and possibly kill them. Please reconsider this location.
This is too close to residential areas and schools; putting hundreds of people at risk for numerous health issues. Not to mention Rocky River flowing nearby which could easily carry contaminants into the water system.

There are already way too many trucks in this area from the excavation taking place next to my child's daycare, King's Keep, and you also must consider the children that will play outside during recess at Furr Elementary.
