Petition in favour of the Swanston Street bike plan from the City of Greater Geelong.
The City of Greater Geelong has developed plans for a bicycle route linking the Barwon River, Bellarine Rail and Corio Bay trails. This involves mostly Copenhagen style lanes and some shared and separated paths along the length of Swanston Street in Geelong and South Geelong.
We are in favour of this proposal because it suits the aim of linking the trails for recreational cyclists, will encourage new and novice cyclists, and provides a North-South link for cycle commuters that wish to be separated from motor vehicle traffic.
We are in favour of the whole of the proposed plan being implemented with no major changes that would disadvantage cyclists. In particular we are in favour of implementation without changing the planned Copenhagen style lanes to shared or separated paths.
This petition was presented to the City of Greater Geelong Council on May 25th 2010.

Reaching this level of support has been a long and exhausting process but seeing this momentum keeps me going. It is clear that people are finally taking notice of the need for safer paths on Swanston Street.

Finally!! Been waiting for a proper connection between the river and the bay for years.
Use my bike to get to work every day and swanston st is a nightmare. Make it happen.
Copenhagen lanes are the best way to go. Hope they dont cave to the people complaining about parking.
This would make commuting so much safer for my kids. Tired of riding on the road with traffic.
Just get it done. No more excuses from the council.

Sick of dodging cars every morning. About time geelong got some proper infrastructure for bikes.
