My name is Cathryn i am a mum of 4 boys living on the isle of wight one of which was referred to the ADRC last march (9 months ago!) for an asd diagnosis. The ADRC have collapsed due to an overwhelming ammount of asd referrals and basically being unfit for purpose.
This is NOT our children's fault and they are being made to suffer because the national health service did not do their job properly in ensuring the money being spent was on a service that was usable and fit for purpose.
They are also cutting funding in our primary schools.
There is currently NO service and no sign of any other provision either,letters that have been promised have not been written, and parents have been left in the dark whilst our children struggle on!
It's unfair and morally that they're not getting the service they deserve.
We have been waiting 9 months!The maximum waiting time is supposed to be 3 months!All the while we as a family like many others struggle with a child who clearly has asd without any of the proper support in place for him or us! Please sign for a better service, one that our children deserve!!

Reaching this many people feels heavy because it confirms so many of us are trapped in the same broken cycle. I am exhausted by the silence from the authorities but seeing this grow reminds me why I started this fight in the first place.

The services on the island are appalling. My child went on the waiting list 2 years ago. 18 months to get through filter panel then bam. Closed. No one is being told anything. No one is kept up to date. The whole service is a sham.
I have one child who has a diagnosis and two children awaiting assessment. My 11 year old has been waiting 14 months and my 6 year olds been waiting 4 months and is at risk of permanent exclusion.
My son was diagnosed two years ago this year through adrc. Now professionals are looking at my daughter, schools are failing out asd children as they do not know how to handle them hence why my son is home educated now. why just because we live on the isle of wight should we not have the same access to services everyone else does.
I have 3 boys 2 of which were on the waiting list for the adrc, our other son already having been through the process and diagnosed. The adrc was a terrible resource and completely mismanaged but even that is better than what we are left with-nothing and no bright horizon to look forward to. So tired of the Isle of Wight being the poor cousin to the UKs services.
We have been waiting nearly 2 years to get a diagnosis for my boy and he needs it so he can access a sensory ot to get further help , the adrc has closed its doors with nothing in place, he deserves to be seen!!

I find it difficult to see children struggling with ASD without proper support. We are supposed to help our children in any way that will set them up for their futures after they finish ther education bur of they don't get proper support when they are young, what chance do they have to survive in life? Street drug and alcohol in young people is already high, it will only get worse!!

As a mum with two asd children who were diagnosed at an early age (luckily for us we were not living on the Isle of Wight back then!) I am horrified at the treatment that other young children are receiving here. The damage that is being done to them by being ignored is irreversible, these children are in need and no one seems to care. Something must be done. Soon.
