Don't appoint Bernie Farber head of the Ontario Human Rights Commission

Dear Premier McGuinty, There is a widespread rumour that you are intending to appoint Bernie Farber Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. We the undersigned, coming from political positions across the political spectrum and from various religious and cultural groups urge you not to appoint Mr Farber to the position. Given the numerous very public positions Mr Farber has taken on issues that are bound to come before him if he were appointed to the OHRC, we believe that Mr Farber would be widely perceived to have a pre-existing bias on numerous issues and that his having the position of chair would undermine the OHRC's credibility and legitimacy. As well, as Mr Farber was a Liberal candidate in the last election, there is a widespread perception that his appointment would undermine the OHRC's political independence. We therefore urge you to appoint another individual to the position.
