I am a member of a belly dance troupe & we call ourselves “Veils of the Nile “ we have troupe members that very in age & body type, dancing is all about how it makes you feel ... it’s expressing yourself regardless ❤️ Our troupe is a sisterhood we encourage each other ❤️
Belly dancers are beautiful women - no matter what age shape or size. It's a dance to be enjoyed by ALL women. There is no room in our beautiful belly dance community for a teacher who is judgemental about a dancers size and who thinks it is acceptable to body-shame!
Dancing is the joy of sisterhood and friendships....open to all who want to join the fun .....started ATS at the age of 69 and I love it, wonderful support and love from my group.
I am a plus sized fusion dancer in Mpls. I have been dancing for about 10 years now. Without the great support system here in MN, I would have never found my way to dance because of my size and disability.
I am 63 years old with gray hair and glasses. I'm also somewhat "overweight". I've been dancing for 4 years and plan to keep performing for many more years. I love the friendship and support from my fellow student troupe members!
I just started belly dancing last month and I am 51 and loving it!!

I am a 60-plus year old grandma who has gotten a new lease on life with belly dancing. In fact, my doctor is encouraging me to continue to maintain fluidity of motion in my body. (PS: I am a "full-figured woman who has gained much self-confidence through belly dancing.) I am proud to say "I belly dance."
