The House finally heard us and agreed to modernize these prehistoric animal cruelty laws. We forced the government to act after two decades of neglect and our victory proves that the abusers can no longer operate in the shadows of outdated legislation. Do not think for a second that we …

The United Humane Societies of Belize call on the community to partner with us and to assist us to improve the care and treatment of dogs and cats in our community. The Belize Dogs Act Chapter 153 and The Belize Cruelty to Animals Act Chapter 115 have not been amended or updated since December 31, 2000. We are asking for your signature to help us get these updated and new enforcement laws for cruelty to animals. The UHSB has been working hard the past two years to draft new legislation that we want to get in front of the Belize House of Representatives. If you would like to read our proposed changes to Chapter 153 and Chapter 115 please email [email protected] THE ANIMALS THANK YOU!

One thousand people have signed this to demand the government finally update laws that have been rotting since two thousand. The House of Representatives cannot keep ignoring this cruelty while our animals suffer under outdated statutes.

The momentum we have built proves that the public is done watching the government ignore these outdated laws. Our animal welfare standards stayed trapped in the past for far too long and this pressure is finally making the House of Representatives take notice.

The Belize House of Representatives is ignoring these ancient laws while animals suffer in the streets. We need to hit the hundred signature mark right now to force them to listen to our demands for change.

I have Fur babies of my own, my heart hurts when I see them neglected on the streets. When I hear them crying ,there owners abussing them, I call the law and they say they can't do nothing, there's no law for our dogs...we need a law for our dogs.

It's unbelievable that so many dog still roam, begging for food. And dogs with intact balls, aggressive and hunting to make more pups. Please require spay and neuter and make owners treat their animals with dignity.

So much ignorance in this country so sad that not much can be done to change anything but at least the poor animals can get some protection from them. We need to make it a law that you need to get a license to get any animal and be inspected and show that you can support the animal.

People should be punished for keeping dogs on a short chain all year long. Teach kids to stop using sling shot on dogs. I picked up my dog from the street abused and eye damaged, she was thrown from a balcony by previous owner. People should be held accountable.

A person who commits cruelty against animals is very likely to later commit to cruelty against humans. The laws should be updated to better protect animals and punish and educate violators before those violators start abusing and hurting people.

There needs to be stricter laws governing animals against abuse/abandonment. In the past people in Belize were required to pay an annual license fee in order to have a dog, unfortunately it didn't seem to stop careless people from having and eventually abusing or abandoning them.
