Proposal to Rename the Alexander County Law Enforcement Center in Honor of Sheriff Elisha Bebber (Deceased)

This is a petition to gauge public support for the proposal to rename the new Alexander County Law Enforcement Center in honor of, and as a memorial to, former Sheriff Thomas Elisha Bebber, Sr. who gave his life in the service of the Citizens of Alexander County, NC on June 2, 1959 when he was shot and killed while responding to a domestic dispute call. That fateful day left emotional scars on all who were involved, and Alexander County lost a man dedicated to the service of the citizens of Alexander County. Sheriff Bebber’s ultimate sacrifice of giving his life in the course of his duties is but one of the approximately 19,000 line-of-duty deaths that have occurred since the first law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty was recorded in 1791. Sheriff Bebber’s sacrifice is eternally memorialized on the Wall of Honor located at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. however, there is no such memorial to his service and sacrifice located in Alexander County. If you believe that naming the Alexander County Law Enforcement Center (newly constructed Sheriff's Office & Detention Facility) is a permanent and fitting way to honor the sacrifice Sheriff Thomas E. Bebber, Sr. made in 1959, please sign this petition to voice your support to the Alexander County Board of Commissioners.
