Surrey has created so many of its own problems and always seems to be unable to find workable solutions that serve the best needs of the communities. Glad to lend my voice to protest. Situation is a disgrace and should not have been allowed to occur. It is becoming abundantly clear that Surrey does not have the best interests of its residents at heart and clearly does not make its children education a priority.

I am incredibly disappointed by this change. Two of my four children will be directly affected by the class reassignments at Laronde. I am particularly concerned for the inequity at the grade 7 level. I can't imagine that the few grade 7 students placed in a 6/7 split could possibly have the same educational and social experience as the majority of their peers in the straight 7 class. I think the social implications could be very serious to the small group that is separated. This is such an important year for these students as they transition into adolescence and prepare for high school. I think it is completely unfair to arbitrarily move a small number of kids from their grade group, essentially isolating them from their peers. I think this could have very damaging effects. The decision to remove a division from our growing school is not in the best interest of any of our kids nor the teachers and is totally short sighted. The French Immersion program has already grown and our school will require more divisions by next year in any case. The removal of a division this year will undoubtedly have a very negative affect on our graduating class. This action shows a lack of understanding of what is needed for our kids' success both academically and emotionally. This action is unacceptable. I strongly urge the district to reassess it's decision and to restore our classes to where they were at the beginning of the school year.

I, respectfully, ask that the Laronde grade 6 students be returned to their 2 straight grade 6 classes. I just cannot believe that this decision was made in the interest of the children. I am sure the decision-makers have all had young children at one point in time and would not have been pleased to send their own children into a situation we are faced with... split learning environments and extremely small peer groups in the classroom because of FOUR split grade 6 classes!! And, the decision was made after the first week of school had already started?? I ask that you please do the right thing for our children.

i agree that split classes are not the answer for a good solid education. It is strictly a financial savings and unfortunately its a pay me now or pay me later situation. Surrey School Board and the BC Government need to understand where the priorities are and where they should be . Wake up and smell the poor decisions

I think it is a disgrace that this is happening, the people that will suffer most are the children and teachers. This is a very bad decision.

I hope we can make a difference with this petition, Our Children are the future and how can we expect our teachers to juggle 30 children and two different curriculums

We are extremely disappointed, there were tears yesterday and their continues to be stress in what to expect Monday. It is apalling that this can happen. It appears to be complete mismanagement at the school district. To Put our children and teachers through this is really unacceptable. It is our kids that will suffer the most ... Really 30 kids in a split class that just does not work. The grade 5's are already dealing with subs until January. To rob the school of a teacher and create this chaos is wrong! Please stop this and find another solution for the other school.

Our children must be first priority at all times. No expense should be spared to provide them the best education possible. They are more important than anything else.

Four grade 6 split classes does not adequately support the students learning especially when three of the split classes will be lower level splits. There are insufficient grade 6 students to warrant four split classes. This is disruptive to the students learning especially in a setting where 2 of the teachers are on medical leave and substitute teachers have been preparing to teach straight grade 5 classes. French immersion enrollment numbers do not change significantly to warrant this abrupt and disruptive change to the class organization. Children will have few peers in their classesas a result of spreading a small group across 4 classes. Please return the 19th division to Laronde Elementary!

changes of this nature should have been made the week before school started and i can't imagine much has changed in one week regarding student to teacher ratio. this reorganization is VERY upsetting to students and it will make for a very poor start to the year that will be felt throughout the year - laronde 5-7 teachers were not expecting to teach split classes and this will affect our children's learning without a doubt - a total mishmash has been created! the district must give back that teaching load - they are at fault for not figuring it out sooner and for that reason the district should reverse this decision. our teachers and students should not be the ones to suffer for the districts poor/delayed number crunching.
