I live in South Auckland and going to Baradene had a massive effect on my career path and thus my future. Without Baradene I would have gone to a South Auckland High School which could not compare to Baradene academically or socially! I would be disappointed to know girls similar to me would miss out n what I have!

I am an ex-baradene student and traveled to school each day from West Auckland. It would be really sad if it become ANOTHER zoned school. The different cultures make Baradene different and special.

Even though i don't attend Baradene anymore, the culture and the fact that anybody could attend the school no matter where they lived was one of the best parts of the school. The people who live far away should have the opportunity to go to Baradene College, there aren't many good schools out there that aren't zoned and affordable and it would be very disappointing to see Baradene turn into a zoned school

One of the many great things about going to Baradene College, was the wide network of friends from all over Auckland. It would be a shame to see this cease. It would become to insular and not expose students to different walks of life, and different backgrounds. A benefit of Baradene is that the common theme is the faith and not an address.

The zoning system disadvantages students as they can only attend schools in their areas. Why should Baradene be just for those who live in rich Remuera? I thoroughly oppose this ridiculous idea of zoning. This is a Catholic school mainly for Catholic students around Auckland and in the past accepting people outside od Remuera had advantaged other students who may not get the chance to do things otherwise!

Don't ever zone Baradene there is so much benefit in a learning environment with students from all walks of life. If you zone Baradene you are making it exclusive to only the wealthy who can afford to live in the area. When is it ever a good idea to teach children to mix only with their own class and force them into a money fueled and money focused environment?

My grandmother, mother and myself all attended Baradene, along with many other family members, (even my Great uncles during the time in which it was co-ed). Some of them have served on the board, and my grandmother frequently visited the nuns even into her old age. I would hate to think my children and my cousins children would be excluded based on where we end up living, which lets face it, in Auckland these days is largely based on what resources you are able to muster. Zoning based on geographic areas creates social exclusion. And not that its the main point, but exclusion is pretty much the antithesis of what a Christian faith should involve right?

Can we really say to others aswell as ourselves that this country provides equal opportuninty for every child. This country is built on diversity, dont take away the integrity of this school by exluding others.

Catholic schools should be allowed to carry on their tradition of accepting enrolments from anywhere. it is part of their Special Character and is integral to the mission of Catholic Schools everywhere.

What's to say Sacred Heart College won't be potentially zoned in future either? This stops now. What a joke. I will not support National ever again in future or have my former college, based on Catholic traditions that valued education regardless of postcode requirements, lose its diversity. Shame on you Hekia. What a terrible female leader you represent for young, educated Maori women.

I would hate to see Baradene zoned. Having been a student there I appreciated the unique culture and stong bonds between students. Most of the students going to Baradene would not have the opportunity at attend the school if it was zoned allowing the wrong type of person into the school ruining the culture and opportunity for those who deserve to go to school there from other zones. The values and honor of going to Baradene would be taken away from everyone in the catholic community. I would loose all respect if the ministry of education if they took away the mana of the school

Catholic education is not about zones, its about the opportunity for catholics to pick a school of their choice any where in Auckland. I didn't go to Baradene but went to Marist College. As a second generation Marist girl I would hate to think my daughters wouldn't have the opportunity to attend Marist college as well. Im sure the same goes for many Baradene girls who loved the school, and wouldn't be who they are today without it, so by enforcing these new rules, it will prevent the Baradene experience to be shared amongst generations.

Enforcing new rules and regulations around whether or not my children are allowed a Catholic education based off of your new scheme is just outrageous. A Catholic education is not a privilege but a God given right. Enforcing these new rules will change the dynamics of cultural diversity as well as dicriminating others based on where they live. I say NO to all zoning of Catholic schools everywhere.

In a perfect world, zoning would be irrelevant because our children would be able to get a high quality education no matter what school they attended. But unfortunately that is not always the case. Zoning not only goes against Catholic values towards diversity, cultural enrichment and respect for one another; it takes away parents' an students' freedom of choice and encourages the segregation and isolation of our children based on where they live. No to zoning!
