To the Minister of Education,

Zoning of Baradene (or plans to do so for any other Catholic school) goes against the Catholic character of the school which accepts any enrolments. Catholic schools should not be made to implement a zoning enrolment scheme because they wish to expand their school roll.
There is a strong emphasis within Baradene that diversity brings strength; this includes cultures and where students live. Students learn much from their peers. Zoning takes away the mana of Baradene.

We just hit 500 signatures because people refuse to let the Ministry of Education strip the character out of our schools. This shows the bureaucrats in Wellington that we see exactly what they are doing to Baradene.

The momentum behind this petition proves that parents refuse to let the Ministry of Education dismantle the inclusive spirit of our Catholic schools. We have forced them to pay attention to our fight against these restrictive zoning plans.

December 14, 2013

One hundred people have spoken up against this baseless zoning scheme. The Ministry of Education needs to stop trying to undermine the Catholic character of our schools.

As an alumna, I don't believe a residential address should depict the school one can attend. Our Sacred Heart goals in particular “Building a community as a Christian value” illustrate the unique diversity of the school and it’s character, which we should hold onto.

The fact that there are people from all corners of Auckland there, all walks of life, different family make-ups and backgrounds makes this school a reflection of society and the real new zealand... it's what made girls worldly, compassionate real girls

As a student attending Baradene at the moment and living out South Aukland it devastates me that if I enrolled for next year I wouldn't be able to attend because Baradene is being zoned, schools like this give girls out of Remuera like South Auckland opportunities, I strongly think this isn't right!

This is a catholic school as catholic values include appreciating diversity. It if becomes zoned it will turn into a school where only people who live in rich suburbs can attend. last time i checked this wasn't a catholic value..

The whole reason the Sacred Heart schools were started by Saint Madeleine Sophie Bara was to provide education for catholic girls ANYWHERE. Not just ones in a particular "zone". Placing a Zone on Baradene will go against the special character of the school.

As a former student of Baradene College from a very poor background I know that I would never be at the stage I am today if I had not gone to Baradene. I want my kids and nieces to all attend Baradene, Being a priority 5 is not good enough
