The school administration confirmed that our music students will be featured in this year's program. We now have verification that the training band, performing band, and guitarists are back on the stage schedule. We will be monitoring the final run of show to ensure these slots remain secured as promised.

UPDATE - The kids can play! We are so grateful and humbled by your support
Gymea Bay Public Schools music students would like equal opportunity to to share their their passion, dedication and hard work they have put in all year at the Gymea Bay Public Schools Perfoming Arts Night (PAN) on Wednesday 28th November 2018.
PAN is a long-standing celebration of the achievements of our children in all areas of the creative arts and a genuine right-of passage for both senior and junior students who practice week in/week out, attend competitions throughout the year and represent our school at a number of community events.
The evening also showcases the schools attitude to equality, inclusiveness and commitment to foster and encourage the diverse talents and abilities that our students provide to the school community.
Please sign this petition to support all our music students and request the PAN committee and school principle to provide the Training Band, Performing Band and Guitarist with stage time as afforded in previous years at PAN to perform the musical pieces they have been practicing all year.

I met with the school administration yesterday to review the current Performing Arts Night program. They are reviewing our formal request for stage time and should provide a written response by the end of the week.

Without band, many kids who have traveled through GBPS would have been marginalised. It gave them confidence when academia, sport and dance were not their skill. Further, this is an important stepping stone to the Regional Band and the music programs of the high schools ... shame!!
This should be a no-brainer!!! How are we ever going to promote the equality of music training and development and all that comes from that, most notably, confidence, is we relegate them to a foyer and basically say “sorry kids..... you’re just not worthy of a stage credit”!!!
The kids deserve to showcase the talents at PAN that they have been learning at GBPS. It is good for them to have exposure to an audience and gives their practices a purpose. It also reinforces the importance of learning a musical instrument to all the school which is so beneficial for the developing brain.
Please re consider, maybe have an intermission set where people are given a minute to exit so they can stretch their legs and others can choose to stay. That way they are still on stage with an audience
I can’t believe this is something that needs petitioning! When my children attended the school they were active members in Wakakirri, dance troupes, school spectacular, choir & of course band. My son now acts professionally, plays guitar, drums, piano & sings. Without the opportunity to perform at this age he may not have followed this path. The band should perform. No question.

I think we’re forgetting this is a school. Not a business. Let the kids play!

It’s disgraceful not allowing the band to perform on stage at the PAN night. This school places far too much emphasis on dance and not enough on other arts such as music and drama. The decision to not allow the band to perform on stage needs to be reversed.
