Bandelier Elementary start time and unpaid teachers

The new start time is way too early! If anything, it should be moved to a later start time. Absolutely ridiculous

It's not fair to the students ,parents, and teachers

As a parent of three grade school students and a full time firefighter for the city of Albuquerque I must express a concern for safety of all the students. With the time change in November it will still be dark for young children taking the bus, it will be added stress to households of more than one child and unnecessarily impact mental health. During winter weather it will have to be more than a two delay and in turn cause more cancellations of school days. And lastly this is a decision that is not respecting the wishes of a vast majority of parents, so much for a democratic system.

No Bandelier start time before 830.

Strongly disagree with this horrible time change.

PAY YOUR TEACHERS

APS needs to pay teachers their hourly rate to perform before and after school duty. Teachers need time to prep before and after school. APS needs to go back to the state and ask for more money to pay staff to support this mandate.

This is going to be way too difficult on everyone in our family and care network. Not to mention having to approach my employer about having to change my schedule (not going to happen), not to mention my wife doing the same with her employer.

Agreed… I do understand there needs to be some concessions by teachers and parents but we should be able to do something besides this.

730 start time is too disruptive and will cause too many students to be tardy. 230 end time is too early and will strain aftercare and/or cause hardships on working parents.

I would guess for the average family, the trip to school usually begins around 30 minutes before school; for the proposed schedule this will be 7 am. Sunrise is at 7 am or later from: September 30 - November 4 December 6 - February 7 March 10 - 26 This is like two-thirds of the school year! Many kids walk and have to cross busy Girard and Carlisle and navigate the gauntlet of crossing the pick-up loop driveways. Drivers have a hard time seeing pedestrians at any time, but especially during this time when the sun is low in the sky or during dawn. This schedule is literally endangering the lives of our children. I applaud APS for paying attention to the research and wanting school to start later for adolescents, but they seem to have forgotten that elementary school children need 10-12 hours of sleep each night. My kid will have to go to bed at like 6:30 pm. How is that even possible?

Yes!!

Every person of the many that I've spoken to (parents and teachers) was opposed to APS's revised schedule, and said so on the APS survey about this matter. APS is ignoring the needs of its parents, teachers, and students once again. I hope they are responsive to this petition - teachers in particular need our support.

Shifting the schedule by an hour and a half is excessive, and disruptive to an already established routine.

Some of our students will be walking to school in the dark during the winter months. This is not ok!
