The proposed 7:30 am start-time is putting our students’ health and well-being at risk.
Nowhere did the APS survey discuss that a later start time for some (middle and high) schools would equal earlier start times for elementary schools. Our young kids need sleep to thrive in school. We need another solution to our dependance on three school buses.
Our children's education is at jeopardy. Not only is APS proposing an earlier start time for Bandelier but also longer days. These longer days give teachers no time to prepare for classes. No one has told us how this longer day benefits our children.
Teachers are being asked to donate their time to our children.
APS is requesting teachers voluntarily arrive early for drop-off and stay late for pick-up. APS wants a donation from teachers. We need paid teachers to be prepared to welcome our kids to school. The kids should not be arriving at the same time as their teachers. This strain on the teachers could force many of our high quality educators to quit, retire, strike, or return as substitutes rather than full time teachers.
Please sign below to say: No APS, you can do better for our children and our families at Bandelier Elementary. The entire structure of our children’s education should not be affected by lack of convenience.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the attention this has received lately. It is clear that so many of you care deeply about these teachers and our children. This momentum belongs entirely to the community that stepped up to speak out.

I am concerned about my kids WALKING to school in the dark in the winter. People do not drive 30mph down Carlisle. Also, children cannot eat dinner and get to bed in order to get 12 hours of sleep before a 7:30 start time. My kids need sleep too!
We live across the street from Bandelier and are considering a different school because of the 730 start time. Our soon to be kindergartener can barely wake up at 730. Please reconsider!
I'm a type 1 diabetic of 30 years, in the morning I sometimes wake up in sugar lows, and have to just ruff it out, in order to get my kids ro school. To lose an hour and a half makes me feel like my kids and myself could be in danger on one of those sugarlow mornings. Please keep the time 9 am. It helps in so many ways. Thank you
APS needs to pay teachers their hourly rate to perform before and after school duty. Teachers need time to prep before and after school. APS needs to go back to the state and ask for more money to pay staff to support this mandate.
This is going to be way too difficult on everyone in our family and care network. Not to mention having to approach my employer about having to change my schedule (not going to happen), not to mention my wife doing the same with her employer.
Teachers should be paid extra when extra time is required of them.
Many of our kids walk, and now they will be walking in the dark thru winter… this is not safe!

Agreed wholeheartedly. The board voted to prioritize the sleep of older kids, with disregard for the well-being of our youngest children. I sincerely hope the board listens.
