Bandelier Elementary start time and unpaid teachers

Keep the schedule the same as it is now for elementary children. Buy more busses. Hire more drivers. Pay teachers more.

Start thinking more about the kids and the teachers than the balance sheet bottom line.

The evidence against having an early school start time is so compelling that numerous organizations have released statements that encourage school districts to transition to later times. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Psychological Association, the American Sleep Association, and the American Medical Association all suggest that schools shouldn’t start until at least 8:30 am each day Also, we were never given the option to choose start times for our own children.

Start time at 8am would be more beneficial

Petition says it all. More deception and self-interested decision-making from APS admin. Not an ounce of this benefits elementary learners or their teachers.

Keep current time! 9 am works

This is frankly ridiculous. Too many school districts ask for this kind of charity "for the good of the children" when a similar arrangement in any other field would be unthinkable. It's all just an excuse for cheapness.

7:30 is way too early to start elementary. My child will not do well with this start time.

Elementary students are in growing phases, need more rest, longer school days are not the answer. Teachers are underpaid and overworked as it is right now.

Children need their sleep

This is way too early for elementary students to have to start school. My grandson goes to Bandelier and they will never get there by 7:30 with having to eat breakfast travel etc. What is the reasoning behind this absurd idea?

I'm a type 1 diabetic of 30 years, in the morning I sometimes wake up in sugar lows, and have to just ruff it out, in order to get my kids ro school. To lose an hour and a half makes me feel like my kids and myself could be in danger on one of those sugarlow mornings. Please keep the time 9 am. It helps in so many ways. Thank you

It is well known and documented children need minimum 10 hrs of sleep. Furthermore, teachers should NEVER be asked to do anything unpaid. Their time is valuable, and we pay them so little to begin with.

Agreed wholeheartedly. The board voted to prioritize the sleep of older kids, with disregard for the well-being of our youngest children. I sincerely hope the board listens.
