Help the Women's Food & Farming Union to BAN Chinese Lanterns! Lanterns (also known as Sky Lanterns, Chinese Lanterns or Wish Lanterns) are being launched in an uncontrolled way across the UK causing a real hazard to livestock ... damaging farms and food crops, endangering wildlife, wildlife habitats and buildings. We, the undersigned, call upon the Welsh Assembly Government and also the UK Government to ban the import, manufacture and sale of these lanterns.

The stories from farmers about the destruction caused by these lanterns are becoming harder to read every single day. I am tired of the silence from officials while our fields remain at risk.

One hundred signatures reached. It is exhausting work trying to get people to look at the damage these lanterns cause but seeing your names helps me keep going.

These are so dangerous, I have seen them set fire to trees and nearly blow into my barn with horses stabled inside!

I am also against fire works but these latterns are gaining in popularity and just another pollutant to our environment and animals. Educate City people, they're only out for a good feeling and fun time.

Cause burns, fires, death, impaction when animals eat them off floor. You are sending a burning object into the sky that will land anywhere , danger to everything. Ridiculous.

These lanterns are a danger to livestock, wildlife, barns & buildings, etc., and should be banned. We had 2 come down on New Year's Eve: one was a couple of feet away from the barn (housing hay & straw and 3 horses), the second actually landed on the roof of the barn. Had we not been able to climb onto the roof and retrieve what was left of the lantern - which was still glowing red hot, I dread to think of what would have happened. They must be stopped now!

Function organisers who offer these lanterns to weddings etc should be shown what damage they do to the countryside and farming

Mrs M Tucker

A danger to crops, livestock, buildings, wildlife, domestic animals & a fire hazard! etc.... no need for these things to exist, they are just awful !!! :-(

Jenny Dinnis

There should be a complete ban on the use of these potential killers !!

CAROLE M BULMER

They are such a danger to animals, crops and the wildlife and should be banned

Michelle Arnold

Can't believe that these things can just be set on fire and left to blow wherever they will. It's an absolutely crazy fire hazard. Add to that the danger to wildlife, what are people thinking.

Jan Coffin

Ban them before someone is killed through the stupidity of people who have no idea of the damned they can do

Linda Winn

Perhaps initially people did not realise how dangerous these are - now there is so much evidence of the damage they can cause, they should be banned.

Jane Brimacombe

It can cause harm to animals they need to be banned.

Karen Canner

There is no need for these to be on sale anywhere in the UK as they cause damage and distress. They look pretty for a few minutes but with no control over where they land untold damage and injury can be the result. They are a menace to all animal owners.

Fully agree these pointless lanterns need banning, they serve no purpose whatsoever & are a danger to wildlife, livestock, buildings even the people watching them!
