- BT/Openreach want to install 34 new telegraph poles on the A593 between Broughton-in-Furness and Woodland. This area is within the Lake District National Park which has recently been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and includes stunning views across the Lakeland fells and towards the Duddon estuary.
Two years ago BT buried all the cables along this stretch and we are calling on them to bury the new cables too. Installing new telegraph poles and cables is a retrograde step that will damage the world-class landscapes. Please sign our petition to stop BT/Openreach from blighting our beautiful countryside.

The feedback I receive highlights how deeply people value the unspoiled character of the Duddon valley. I have been preparing a formal inquiry to understand why previous progress in burying these cables is being reversed. This process requires patience as we look into the technical decisions made behind our backs.

Reaching this level of support confirms that many others feel a deep responsibility to protect the integrity of our landscape. It is heartening to see such a collective commitment to preserving the character of the Lake District.

Very thing possible should be done to maintain the beauty of the area. If you buried one set of cables to avoid damage then you should do so again as there will be the double gain. Damage limitation benefits customers as well as keeping the place as beautiful as possible for the benefits of locals and visitors.
This is a beautiful area that does not need anymore infrastructure to detract from our wonderful view. We're very lucky to live in such a stunning area and in this day and age with the technology available to us it seems unnecessary to add more poles and cables when there are perfectly acceptable alternatives.

How short-sighted not to bury the cables!!
The poles should not be erected in a beautiful landscape. The existing telephone wires are buried so why can't the new ones be buried? It makes no sense to spoil our landscape.
Ban the poles and bury the cable like you did before. Don't spoil our beautiful road. Would be delighted to get better internet.

The A593 is the main road fromBroughton in Furness to Coniston. It passes almost exclusively through the Lake District National Park...which has just received World Heritage status....Telegraph poles and wires are NOT the way forward in the 21st Century.
